Chicks

We are barnyard chicks yes we are, eleven of us we are, we hatched out each one of us from an egg, kept in a nest. Mother hen sat on us keeping us warm 21 days, till we pecked our way out. What happened to the shells, they musta got ate cause they’re not in the nest no more. We love mother hen even if she didn’t lay us. She protects us; she’ll chase a cat and even a dog. She keeps us warm on chilly days as we hide underneath where you can’t see us. You can tell when mother hen is in defense mode as her tail feathers spread and she ruffles her feathers trying to look big. Have you ever seen a mother hen who was a chicken?
